December 30 Not Being Consumed

Recently the U.S. coast guard launched an air and sea mission to rescue 13 people, including a child from fishing vessel. The vessel was about 100 kilometers off shore before it became consumed with water and sank. Do you ever feel like there are so many hardships in life that you are going to be consumed? The Bible informs us that there will be hardships, storms that will occur in our lives but it has instruction in regard to the proper focus during those storms. The focus is not to be on the storms but on God. In the book of Isaiah it reads, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.

December 28 Early Detection of Dementia

A new study from the university of Cambridge indicates it may be possible to detect dementia a decade before an individual is diagnosed. The new findings make is possible to screen at-risk patients who qualify for early medical treatment. Those considered to be of a higher risk are those over fifty whom have high blood or do not do enough exercise. Did you the Bible tells us there is something that all of humanity has to treat that we have all been infected with? Romans 3:23 reads, “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Thankfully the treatment for our sin has been made available and is accessible through the person of Jesus Christ.

December 26 Girl Found after 5 months after searching

Last month Fox news reported how a Georgia teenager whom had been missing for five months had been located and reunited with her family. The now 17 year old was 16 when she climbed out her second story bedroom window. At the time she left without her phone, that had been confiscated after her parents found out she had been communicating with strangers online. One can only imagine how fervently her parents would have been searching for her. Did you know the Bible shares about a search that God is fervently on. It is shared about in 2 Chronicles which reads, “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.

December 23 Getting Ready for Christmas

The time of Christmas gatherings is heavily upon us. People getting all dressed up to look their best. What a foolish thing if a person was getting ready and looked in the mirror and noticed mustard on his or her face and just left it.! Did you know we are warned in the Bible to not be so foolish to leave mustard on our faces? Essentially, we are warned if we see something that needs to be addressed that we address it. In the book of James, it reads, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

December 21 Outside of the Norm

Last month a pear-shaped 18 carat pink diamond sold for 28.8 million US dollars. It is said to be the largest of its kind to ever be auctioned for sale. This one of a kind diamond generated a lot of attention. The fact is that when something happens outside of the norm it often gets people’s attention. How unique the announcement was regarding the first Christmas given to the shepherds? It was given through angels. That is definitely outside the norm and it went as follows, “…behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For there is born this day in the city of David, a Saviour Who is Christ the Lord. Has the reality of that event gotten your attention?

December 19 Wake Up!

Recently a gentleman was driving down a road in Red Oak, Iowa and he ended up taking a wrong turn and came across a home that was on fire. He went to the door and when the four individuals inside heard someone banging and yelling at the door they woke up and managed to escape before they were overtaken with the smoke and fire. Thankfully they woke up when they did! Did you know in the Bible there is a call sent out to all whom know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour but are not living as they should and it has to do with waking up. Romans 13:11 reads, “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.

December 16 World’s Longest Train

Recently Switzerland marked its 175th anniversary of the first railway in its country by connecting 25 electric trains together. By doing so they were able to make a 100 car, 1.9 kilometer train that snaked through the Swiss Alps creating a world record for the longest train. Imagine watching a train pass by that went on for almost 2 kilometers. It would seem like it would go on forever. Did you know the Bible notes something that goes on beyond what we can fathom. That is the knowledge of God. In the book of Romans it reads, “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!”

December 14 Eating is Time Sensitive

CTV news put out an article recently addressing the results from a study put out by journal Cell Metabolism. It addresses the area of time sensitivity of when we eat. Apparently eating in the evening makes a difference in our hunger levels, the way we burn calories after we eat, and the way we store fat. These changes help explain why late eating is associated with increased obesity risk. That being the case it is important to realize that eating is time sensitive. Did you know that in the Bible salvation is time sensitive. In the book of 2 Corinthians chapter six it reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

December 12 The Highest Cost Imaginable

In an article put out recently CTV news identified three expenses in Canada that are higher than most other countries in the world. The cost of basic wireless internet and cell phone packages are consistently higher, the price of housing considering the price to income ratio is worse than any other developed nation, Canadian also pays among the highest credit card processing fees in the world. Did you know there is a cost identified in the Bible that is higher than anyone can phantom. That is the sin of humanity. The Bible also identifies a means in which this was addressed and can be applied to the lives of individuals. John 3:16 reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

December 9 $87,000 pair of jeans

CTV news reported recently how a pair of Levi jeans from the 1880’s sold at an auction in a small town in New Mexico for more than $87,000 US dollars. Imagine owning a pair of jeans worth more than $87,000. I don’t know why anyone would want to own such an expensive pair of jeans but to some it would be a real treasure. In the Bible Jesus shares a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The treasure pictured is the kingdom of heaven and is of infinite worth but we can actually possess it. Jesus also shared the way into the kingdom. His words from the book of John reads, “I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.”
