In New Haven Connecticut, Elmer Alvarez, a homeless man, found a cheque for ten thousand dollars. Surprisingly, though poor, he went out of his way to find the rightful owner, Roberta Hoskie, a Realtor in the city. Hoskie, a former homeless person herself, is showing her gratitude. She wrote him a check, is helping him get an education, and assisting him to get an apartment of his own. There is another Who is ready and able to help anyone who sincerely calls upon Him. Only in this case, Jesus does not offer help to those who have done something for Him, but to those who have wronged Him. The Bible tells us that Christ died for our sins, and He is “able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him.” None of us is beyond the help He offers. But He will not force Himself on us. We must ask for it.
