A study out of the University of Pennsylvania found that men who shave their heads bald, as actor Bruce Willis and basketball star Michael Jordan did, are viewed as more powerful and confident than their counterparts with full heads of hair. But the Bible has something very different to say about our appearance. When choosing a new king for Israel, God told Samuel the prophet “Do not look at his appearance, or at his physical stature… for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” God then chose David, a very ordinary younger man. When God looks inside of us, it is not a pretty sight, since “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Thankfully though, God loves us regardless of what He sees, and when asked for mercy, He responds and forgives even the worst of us.
