Psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud wrote, “What decides the purpose of life is simply the pleasure principle.” Freud, an influential figure in the study of human behaviour, has many followers in our modern world…people who seek pleasure by self-indulgence. Solomon of old tried and failed, writing “I did not withhold from my heart any pleasure.” Later realizing this lifestyle was not working, he concluded, “All is vanity.” King David, in the Psalms, urged his readers to turn to God for true pleasure. He wrote, “You will show me the path of life, at your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.” Jesus added more information, with His words, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.
