In December 2016, the Bank of Canada reported that on a national basis, household indebtedness in Canada has continued to rise. The report said that the national ratio of debt to disposable income is approaching 170 per cent. And Chris Lockner in an article about indebtedness wrote, “It’s never too soon to learn the value of a dollar.” As important as it is for all of us to learn how to budget our money properly, we need to be even more mindful that it is never to soon to realize the value of our soul. Jesus Himself said, “What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his own soul.” However successful we may be, we can never buy eternal life. Paul made that clear when he wrote, “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” What a gift!
