Canada Day July 1

July 1st is a wonderful day of celebration. The whole country of Canada joins in as we celebrate the birth of this great nation. There are many festivities that are organized to celebrate in our various provinces and territories. The most noticeable and anticipated of these events are the fireworks. A clear indication that something worth celebrating has taken place are the magnificent lights and colours that fill the sky. Did you know there are times in heaven of great celebration? We do not know just what this celebration consists of but we do know that there is great joy. We are also told the reason for this time of celebration. In the book of Luke chapter 15 verse 10 Jesus says, “Likewise I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Criminal Record Removed – June 30

Have you ever seen an advertisement promoting the possibility of having one’s criminal record removed? I am sure anyone who has a criminal record would love to erase that record from their history. Imagine not being able to travel because of something that comes up from your past whenever you get to the border? The Bible tells us of a way we can have our sins before God removed. It tells us of a way we can have a clean record. A means that is made possible by a person being sorry for their sin and trusting in what Jesus did on the cross as a payment for their sin. Causing a person from then on to see sin differently and God differently. This clearance is spoken of in Psalm 103:12 which reads, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us

Trained Bees – June 29

Did you know Dutch researchers have trained Bees to identify samples infected with Covid19? These researchers are hoping to be able to cut down the wait time for tests, to just seconds. These bees apparently extend their tongues to receive a reward, sugary water, when presented with an infected sample. Did you know the Bible tells us God has given us a conscience to help us detect sin? Acts 24:16 reads, “I myself strive to have a conscience without offence toward God and men.” Something else the Bible tells us is that not only do we have a way to detect sin but also a way to be cleansed from it. A way made possible through coming to know Jesus Christ as ones Savior. 1 John 1:9 reads, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Lots of Milk – June 28

Last month a woman from Bamako Mali, gave birth to 9 babies at once. Yes it was 9! The 25 year old mother was told by doctors she would be having 7, which is unbelievable, but she ended up having 9 healthy babies. According to the Guinness book of World records this appears to be a new record! Can you imagine how often these babies will need to be fed? In the Bible, there is a connection made between newborn babies and those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior, that has to do with feeding. 2 Peter 2:2 reads as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby. Just a milk is essential to the life a newborn baby so is the reading of the Bible essential to the spiritual growth of someone who has trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Not Enough Sleep – June 25

If you are trying to get by on about six hours or less of sleep a night during the workweek, you are setting your brain up for future failure, according to a new study published last month in the journal, Nature Communications. In the study it was found that persistent short sleep duration between the ages of 50 and 70 was associated with a 30 percent increase of dementia risk. This was determined after following nearly 8000 people for 25 years. In the Bible in the book of Matthew Jesus shares about the importance of rest although he is not talking about sleep. He says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Looking for good Reception – June 23

Last month a Royal Canadian Air Force captain was reprimanded for diverting a military patrol plane from a training mission to a populated area so he could find cellphone service to check in for a personal flight the following day. The captain piloted the aircraft approximately 25 minutes off of its target to find cellular reception. He was having a real problem to get through on his phone but finally did. Thankfully, when a person is in a right relationship with God, having to find good reception is not a problem in order to get through. In the book of Psalms, chapter 66 verse 1 it reads, “hear my cry, O God, Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

A Great Tragedy – June 21

Last month an elevated section of the Mexico City metro collapsed and sent the train plunging toward a busy boulevard killing at least 23 people. The Mexican Foreign Relations secretary called the collapse “the most terrible accident we have ever had in mass transportation.” The cause of the collapse was immediately put through an expert investigation. In the Bible, in the book of Matthew chapter 7 verses 26-27 Jesus tells of a future great tragedy in which he shares the cause and outcome. He says, “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

3 Things Employers are Looking up on your Facebook Account – June 18

There are lots of students looking for employment this summer. The media agency, Social Hire, has noted 3 things employers typically look up on facebook before hiring that might be good to keep in mind. The first thing they mentioned is employers are looking to see if you are a party person. The second thing they want to know is if you have spoken poorly of your previous boss or place of employment. The third thing they look at is how well you communicate. They actually check your grammar. These three things are something that may be worth keeping in mind. On much more important scale, the Bible tells us the kind of person God is looking for. In the book of Isaiah, chapter 66, verse 2 it reads, “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.

Tragedy Avoided! – June 16

Last month a video was posted to Twitter by India’s Minister of Railways which showed a station worker at Vangani Station in Mumbai sprinting to rescue a child as an oncoming train sped towards them. The best description of what it was like to watch this video is hair raising. This child was literally facing death and was wonderfully saved. Did you know the bible tells us, all of us, in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death. Death meaning eventually having to face separation from God and all His goodness. An absolute tragedy! It also tells us in John 3:16 a way we can be saved from this tragedy. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

House Purchases are Up – June 14

In Prince Edward Island there has been a dramatic increase in home sales over the previous year. According to data released by the PEI Real Estate Association, the number of sales in March 2021 increased 81.7 per cent compared to March 2020. The average cost for a home also jumped 21.9 per cent. More and more people are desiring to find a home on PEI. The Bible tells us not simply God’s desire to find a home but the reality that He does find a home in those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Saviour. 2 Corinthians 6:19-20 reads, “19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
