The Greatest Lighthouse April 17, 2019

Many Maritime lighthouses have been preserved and will continue to be a part of our future as well as part of our past. They have saved many from shipwreck. Just as lighthouses dispel darkness and give guidance, Jesus, the Light of the world, assures us that anyone who follows Him will not walk in darkness. John’s gospel records Jesus’ own words, “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me should not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John was also inspired to write “But as many as received Him, (Christ), to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

An act of Grace! April 15, 2019

In Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, a man saw a meterman nearing another person’s parked car with an expired meter. He sprinted ahead and popped some money into the meter. It was his good deed for the day. This act was seen by some as a picture of the biblical teaching of law and grace. Because we have all broken God’s law, and since “the wages of sin is death”, His holiness demands a response on our part. But we are incapable of satisfying God’s justice. Thankfully, the love of the heavenly Father provides that satisfaction. John chapter three, verse 16 tells us how: “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus explained, that He had come that we might have life…”

Communication April 12, 2019

“We communicate via text messages and e-mails, gas up with credit cards, make deposits online and buy over the internet. We can go through a day and never say “hello” to anyone. These are the words of author Max Lucado in his book “Outlive Your Life.” Without doubt, technology is important in our relationships, but we must also remember to talk to the most important Person in the world, our Maker. Happily, we are not put on hold when we call Him. He invites us to “call unto me and I will answer you.” When we ask the good Lord for forgiveness and desire to become His children, we only need this simple prayer—“God, be merciful to me a sinner.” When we sincerely pray that prayer, He has promised, “Whoever comes to me I will never cast out.”

Wanting the Father Near April 10, 2019

A little boy loved his father very much and was sad when he was away from home. One day as he looked at his Dad’s picture, he said, “Mommy, I wish Daddy would come out of that picture frame.” And sometimes when life overwhelms us and we feel sad and lonely, we wish that our Heavenly Father was near at hand. Thankfully, He has promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” At such times we can also draw comfort from promises written in the Bible, God’s inspired Word, assuring us that the Heavenly Father, is “a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” One beautiful gospel song asks, “Is your burden heavy as you bear it all alone? Then answers, “Reach out to Jesus, He’s reaching out to you.”

Promises, Promises, Promises April 8, 2019

There will be a federal election this year. We will be bombarded with lots of promises concerning infrastructure, education and health care. Unfortunately, many of those promises will not be kept. Not so with our Heavenly Father. The Psalmist declares, “The Lord is faithful to all His promises.” And Joshua, was inspired by God to add, “Not a word has failed of any good thing which the Lord has spoken.” Many of His promises concern the next life. Paul, in the book of Romans wrote, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”

Sneaking into College April 5, 2019

Last month fifty people were charged in the biggest college admissions scam ever prosecuted in the USA. Wealthy parents allegedly bribed college personnel with millions of dollars to get their children into some of the nation’s most elite institutions. While these people tried fraud to get their children admitted to college, since time immemorial, men and women have used illegal means, including riches and good works, to try to gain admission to heaven. The Bible, reveals that it is “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to God’s mercy He saves us…” and that it is “…By grace we are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Air Pollution April 3, 2019

According to the World Health Organization, air pollution is the biggest environmental risk to health, causing one in nine deaths annually around the world. The article added, “What we can’t see can hurt us.” How true! And what we don’t know can hurt us too. According to the Bible, God’s inspired Word, there is only one way to heaven. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” To all who sincerely want a proper relationship with God, and desire to be prepared for the next life now, Jeremiah was inspired to write, “You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Now you know. Please take appropriate action.

April Fool’s Day April 1, 2019

It is April Fool’s Day 2019, celebrated in various countries by people playing practical jokes and hoaxes on friends and neighbors. The goal is to light-heartedly “make a fool” of someone. The Bible also refers to the word “fool”. Jesus told about a man who lived all his life for this world only, became wealthy but did not prepare his soul for the next life. His philosophy was – “eat drink and be merry.” But when his time came to die, God called him a fool and reminded him, “This night your soul will be required of you. Then whose will those things be which you have…?” And the Psalmist added, ”The fool has said in his heart, there is no God.” Please don’t be an April fool this year. Make your peace with God by turning to Christ.

Busyness March 29, 2019

Frequently two people are seen at the same table in a restaurant, both on their cell phones, paying no attention to each other. Jack Korning wrote, “when we get too caught up in the busyness of the world, we lose connection with one another—and ourselves.” He could well have added, “and with God.” Someone asked,” Have we allowed pleasure, careers, education etc. to crowd out our time to think about God?” An old gospel song asks a pertinent question, “How long has it been since you talked with the Lord, and … knew He cared for you.?” The Psalmist wrote, “Be still and know that I am God.” That is great advice. Let’s get off our various electronic devices, turn the television off and talk to God. He is waiting for your call

The Elephant March 27, 2019

The elephant, the largest land animal in existence, generates extraordinary fascination for many. Zoos around the world keep them for public viewing. Unfortunately, many of them die due to cold winters and lack of adequate space. Many animal lovers urge that they be set free.” In other words, “If you love them set them free.” Of course, freedom is not only important for animals, but also for people too. Often we feel like an animal in a zoo, bound by habits, problems, relationships. But freedom is available. Jesus has said, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” And the truth is that though we are all spiritually needy, Christ has paid our sin debt on the cross, and offers to forgive us and set us free.
