This month, a very unique villa in the heart of Rome will be auctioned off at a starting price of 547 million dollars. What makes this villa so unique is that it has a ceiling mural by the Italian painter Caravaggio. The mural covers approximately 30 square feet. That would bring the value of the ceiling to somewhere around 18 million a square foot. That would be quite a site to look up at. Did you know in the Bible there is direction given to look up at something that is absolutely magnificent? It the Bible there is direction given by Jesus Christ regarding his second coming. In the book of Luke, in the context, He is talking about a number of specific things that will happen immediately before He returns and he instructs his followers present during those signs to, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

Recently the US auto safety regulator announced its first ever reward to a whistle blower. It handed out more than twenty four million dollars to a former Hyundai employee who provided key information about safety lapses at the South Korean carmaker. A representative from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said “Whistleblowers play a crucial role in bringing information to NHTSA about serious safety problems that are hidden from the agency,” Did you know in the Bible there is a whistleblower. He is known as the Apostle Paul. He let humanity know of a serious problem that many were not aware of that has to be addressed. People are looking to accomplish something that is praiseworthy. Did you know the Bible outlines something to accomplish that is praiseworthy that places other accomplishments dark in its showdown? In the book Jeremiah it reads, “Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. Recently two diamond bracelets once owned by Marie Antoinette, the former queen of France were auctioned off in Switzerland for more than eight million dollars. The former queen sent the jewelery away for safe keeping before she was guillotined during the French revolution. The bracelets were bought over the phone by an anonymous bidder. This person bought quite a treasure. Did you know Jesus had something to say about treasure that we should be storing up? He said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Earlier this year someone in Canada managed to spend $1600 on a single takeout order according to data from a delivery app. In its annual Cravings Report, Urber Eats said the country’s largest order was placed in Vancouver. It was placed at the city’s high-end Gotham Steakhouse and Bar. This person must have had an absolute consuming desire to order enough food to cost sixteen hundred dollars. Did you know that in thes Bible, Jesus speaks of having a desire that should be all consuming? He says in the book of Matthew, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled.” Jesus also tells us the way to experience this righteousness, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Last month a Toronto home made headlines for its unusual selling price of $1. The house was on the market for less than a week and the three-bedroom detached home sold for 1.2 million dollars! It was obviously a marketing strategy to draw attention and it worked. The house sold for 1,199,999 dollars above the asking price. The fact is that when something happens outside of the norm it often gets people’s attention. How unique the announcement was regarding the first Christmas given to the shepherds? It was given through angels. That is definitely outside the norm and it went as follows, “…behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For there is born this day in the city of David, a Saviour Who is Christ the Lord. I am Gary Harris and Merry Christmas!

We are in the season of Christmas gatherings. People getting all dressed up to look their best. What a foolish thing if a person was getting ready and looked in the mirror and noticed mustard on his or her face and just left it and went to the gathering mustard and all! Did you know we are warned in the Bible to not be so foolish to leave mustard on our faces? Essentially, we are warned if we see something that needs to be addressed that we address it and not be so foolish to leave things the way they are. In the book of James, it reads, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

Last month a man was removed from one of Britain’s deepest caves after a grueling and complicated 54 hour rescue operation. Over 240 rescuers joined forces and formed a human chain to remove a cave explorer who lost his footing and became injured in the cave. One of the rescuers, Allan Berry, said there was a real feeling of relief and joy when they were able to get the injured man out of the cave alive. What an amazing, successful rescue effort! Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible that is absolutely amazing and is successful for all who take part? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

This past growing season, in the maritime provinces, a number of farmers were in a competition to grow the most amount of crops on their designated fields. Aaron Mills with Agriculture and AgriFood Canada (AAFC) collaborated with farmers to monitor more than 100 fields of various grains to see who can grow the most. He recruited farmers from around the Maritimes to grow barley, winter wheat, spring wheat and oats. The competition encourages farmers to use the best practices available to produce the greatest crops. Did you know the bible gives instruction on the best practice available regarding spiritual growth? In the book of Hosea it reads, “Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

Thankfully the four year old girl, allegedly abducted from her family’s tent in remote Western Australia, was found after a 19 day search. She was found 48 kilometers from the camp site in a private home. A local man is under investigation for abduction. One can only imagine the relief the parents experienced when their daughter was lost and then finally found after 19 days. Did you know there is an account in the Bible of a search that is requested for something to be found that is causing the one requesting a great deal of distress. It is actually a search that is requested of God Himself which reads, Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
