Fatal Mistakes May 9, 2018

Ekaterina Fedyaeva, a twenty-seven-year-old Russian woman mistakenly had her IV bag filled with Formaldehyde. Doctors had allegedly intended to put her on a saline drip. For her it was a fatal mistake. When considering our spiritual health, our relationship to God, it is vital that we don’t make a mistake. Proverbs in the Old Testament warns that “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Some try to prepare themselves for the next life by such things as going to church, giving to charities, or dropping bad habits, which in themselves may be good. But the truth is that we would have to be perfect to enter God’s presence and none of us is perfect. Impossible? Yes. That’s why Jesus suffered and died in our place. He took the punishment for our sins, and the invitation is “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.”

What Our Computer Knows About Us May 7, 2018

“… Everything you do online does leave a footprint and will be kept forever,” according to Dylan Curran, a Data Consultant and Web Developer. He says our computers know wherever we have been, everything we’ve searched and deleted, the apps we use, our YouTube history, Ominously, we don’t know who has access to this private personal data. Someone else knows all about us too. Psalm 139 says that God knows when we sit or rise, our thoughts, our words before we speak, sees us before we are born, and how long we will live. “nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.” God knows everything about us, but still loves us. offering forgiveness when we sincerely call upon Him, inviting us to “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.”.

Titanic Love Letter May 4, 2018

A rare Titanic “love letter” has come up for auction. Written by Kate Buss, it tells what life was like on the doomed vessel. The pre-sale estimate of price, twenty-eight to thirty-five thousand dollars. A valuable bit of memorabilia! But there is a priceless and much more valuable love letter. It is called the Bible– God’s inspired Word. It reveals the greatest love gift ever given–the gift of salvation provided by Jesus, the Son of God. John 3:16 perhaps best describes that love as follows: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” This love letter provides all the information, comfort and encouragement we need to access God’s love and it tells us about heaven– our eternal home. What a letter, what a book, what love!

He Gave His Life May 3, 2018

French Lieutenant Colonel Arnaud Beltrame was acclaimed as a hero recently. During a terrorist attack in France, he took the place of a young woman. The woman was freed, unfortunately Beltrame was shot, and killed. His brother said of him, “…he gave his life for someone else, a stranger.” This brave act reminded me of another person who gave His life for others. Jesus gave His life on a cross at Calvary, in Israel. He did so to take the place of sinners, to pay the sin debt we all owe, since “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Paul the Apostle, wrote, “God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Lieutenant Colonel Beltrame gave his life to save the life of one person. He is a hero. Jesus Gave His life to save the souls of all mankind. He is God.

Our Awesome God May 2, 2018

Hubble space telescope has captured a picture of the most distant individual star ever spotted– a blue super giant named Icayus. Who made that star, and our universe? Our awesome God, the Creator of heaven and earth. The Psalmist exclaimed, “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise, His greatness, no one can fathom.” But even more amazing is the fact that God loves us. Frederick Lehman, author of the well-known gospel song ‘The Love of God,’ must have had that love in mind when he included words, “The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell; It goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell…” While inspiring Paul to warn us that that “the wages of sin is (spiritual) death,” he lovingly had Paul tell us that “the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Different Response times May 1, 2018

The average ambulance response time across Prince Edward Island is 8 minutes and 23 seconds. But recently in Brandon Manitoba a frantic woman, high on drugs and experiencing paranoia broke into a home. It took forty-five minutes for help to get there. Brittany Bergwell, the homeowner, said, “…that was a longer response time than was warranted in this situation.” Help lines from fellow humans for medical or police assistance do, sometimes, fail us. But when we call on God for our spiritual needs, He always hears and answers, and we never get a busy signal. Nobody who sincerely called out to God has ever been ignored or turned away. He promises, “Call unto me, and I will answer you…” When we sincerely call out to the Heavenly Father for forgiveness, He promises, “Whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Two Philosophies of Life April 30, 2018

Evolution, is supported and endorsed by governments, the media, and major educational institutions. The late Dr. William B. Provine, for years Professor of Biological Sciences at Cornell University, once said, “Let me summarize my views on what modern evolutionary biology tells us. There are no gods, no life after death. no… ultimate meaning in life.” His words reveal that Evolution offers no hope. Happily, the Bible answers, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Paul explained where mankind went astray, writing, “through one-man (Adam) sin entered the world and death through sin and thus death spread to all men…” God’s response is“…while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus promised “I am the resurrection and the life…whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.

Very Valuable Baseball Card April 27, 2018

She thought that her old baseball card might be worth ten dollars. It was an 1869 card showing the Cincinatti Red Stockings, baseball’s first openly all-professional team, possibly the first baseball card ever produced. After professional evaluation, it sold for $75,000. Indeed, the true value of an object is sometimes hidden by outward appearances. The famous and rich are not the most valuable in God’s sight. The despised, poorest, and lowliest are precious to Him. All are special in the sight of our Lord. That’s because though “man looks on the outward appearance, God looks on the heart.” What He sees in our hearts is sin, but still he loves us. Paul wrote ”God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” When we respond, He can make something beautiful of our lives.

Our Best Communication April 25, 2018

A satellite is a communications system with the ability to receive signals from Earth and to retransmit those signals back by means of transmitters of radio signals. These devices are amazing, but nothing compared to the wonderful communications system that all of us have to another world. This amazing communication is prayer. Paul the Apostle encourages urges, “…in every situation… present your requests to God. And the peace of God…will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” The prophet Jeremiah was inspired to remind us, “Call unto me, and I will answer you…” Paul was also inspired to assure us, “…whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” When we sincerely and humbly pray a simple prayer “God be merciful to me a sinner,” God answers and we become part of His family.

Gambling Addiction April 23, 2018

John Bennett, director of the Harvest House outreach center in Charlottetown, sees people daily suffering from the effects of gambling addiction. Many divert money meant to go toward living expenses like groceries to feed their habit. Often, these hurting people lose their jobs, homes, families and in some cases their lives. It is a serious problem. Fortunately, some gambling addicts, get help, from good organizations like Harvest House. They overcome their habit and go on to live useful, productive lives. But the worst gamble of all is the gamble that there is no God, no hereafter, no accountability. Thankfully, for these spiritual gamblers too, there is help. That help, that Higher Power, is Jesus. He says to all, “Come unto me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Call out to Him today.
